Emergo Group has learned that Malaysian authorities have closed their voluntary registration system for medical device manufacturers in preparation for the launch of a mandatory registration scheme expected in 2013.

The Malaysian Ministry of Health has yet to announce a formal implementation date for the new regulations. Based on draft documents published earlier this year by the Medical Device Authority, the new system is expected to resemble the medical device regulatory process in Singapore.
